How to read guitar tabs - Advance Techniques
Bends
Bends often make your playing sound more
expressive. When you bend you
increase the original pitch depending on how much you bend it.
To perform a
bend you put your third finger on the string and fret you want to bend,
push
the string upward while maintaining contact of the string to the fret
wire.
Put
your second and first finger on the string you want to bend for support
and
better control of the bend.

There are four types of bends that are represented
in TABs.
Decorative Bends
This type of bending is usually used for
decorative effect. The TAB sign
for this seem to indicate that it is a slight bend but it really
depends on the
player to decide how much to bend.

Specific
Pitch Bends
This type of bend requires you to bend the string
half a tone or a full
tone higher.
Remember that you can use your other fingers to
help with the bend.

Pre-bend
In this type of bend the string is first bent
before it is picked. The
bend is then released returning the pitch to its original tone.
