Strumming

Guitar strumming may be difficult for the beginner especially when it is your first musical instrument and they struggle to get into rhythm. It is especially difficult to start strumming by just looking at tabs and sound like the song you intend to play even if you get the chords right.

One solution is to get the exact feel from listening to the recording as opposed to reading it off the tab in close detail.

It seems that strumming is one the most common problems for the learning guitarist. Knowing how to strum great will bring life and energy to songs that were considered ‘ok’. A good strummer can make a two-chord song sound more complicated than it really is.

Here are some good strumming techniques:

-      Hold the pick firmly

-      Keep your strumming wrist loose

-      Strum the accurate number of strings on the down stroke and just hit a few strings on the up stroke

-      Pick the strings firmly

-      Strum smoothly and without hesitations

Repeat signs are used to indicate when to repeat a part of a song. A repeat sign is shown below:
